HSE Risk Assessment Needs Everyone To Play Their Part

Having good quality floors and working conditions in the modern era is not enough, a company has to be able to prove that they have safe working conditions and they have done everything in their power to reduce all risks in the working environment. Many people will complain about the administrative requirements that companies need to undertake in the modern climate but it is important to be able to produce documentation when required. This is why businesses need to undertakeHSE risk assessment and be able to show that they have complied with any findings and requests from the assessment.

Although the HSE risk assessment should be seen as something that every business needs to have to satisfy safety obligations, having it in place can also help make the workplace a more confident environment. There are many different elements which will impact on the morale and confidence levels of a work-force but knowing that the offices are safe should help people to feel better about their work. It is not as though this will magically transform employees into being continually cheerful and at ease- but it can certainly assist with creating the proper mood for the working environment. As safety is a minimum requirement that employees expect in their workplace, if it is not there, it can seriously damage morale, so it is best to ensure that safety is central to a company’s outlook.

However, safety is not just an issue for employers to take care of; employees need to buy into the process as well. Undertaking aHSE risk assessment of the workplace should involve the staff and can be used as a training and development process for all employees. Quite often, accidents are caused by the actions of others and anything which encourages employees to think about their actions and to have consideration for others is likely to bring about benefits.

Even though the thought of a HSE risk assessment can sound serious, there are many small steps that companies and their employees can do to minimise the level of risk that exists in the workplace. If an employee spills a drink in the canteen, they should clean it up or at least make other people aware of the spillage while alerting the cleaning staff. If an employee is taking items out of a cupboard, closing the door when they are finished can make the working environment a little bit safer. If every employee takes responsibility for their own actions, the safety level of an office, warehouse or another business environment will greatly improve.

Carrying out a HSE risk assessment in the workplace can be seen as just obtaining the paper document which says an office is safe, but it should be an on-going process for all companies. The safety aspect of a room can be compromised at any time, but if staff members are trained to identify the hazards and are taught what to do if a situation arises, the safety levels of the workplace should be greatly improved. Obtaining a clean bill of health for safety in the workplace is not impossible; it just takes everyone to play their part.
