Reducing Slips and Falls at the 2012 Olympics

People viewing the 2012 Olympic site cannot help but be impressed by the scale of construction currently underway. Nor can they deny that completion deadlines are drawing ever closer, and that over-running these deadlines is not an option. With industry insiders predicting a mad dash to the finish to rival the track events themselves, it is important nothing is left till the last minute.

The requirement for safe surfaces extends beyond the obvious sporting venues. All surfaces in use by staff and visitors alike must be safe to use in the conditions of end use, this includes a minimum slip resistance value and/or effective risk management controls.

The law on slip resistance.

Reducing slip risk.

With health and safety a prominent feature of these Olympic games, many interior and exterior floor surfaces in the both the Olympic Village and the wider Olympic site will be expected to meet minimum slip resistance requirements as defined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Whether you are supplying ceramic tiles, laying resin or bitumen or installing decking, the way to ensure legal compliance is with a “Pendulum” slip test conducted by independent experts to BS 7976.

Our in-house sample testing service provides would be suppliers with an independent slip test certificate for their product. Turnaround is typically within 24 hours of receipt and our fees are surprisingly low.

Whatever the case, we can advise what this means in real terms and provide an accurate assessment using industry recognised methods.
