Grip Potential offer an independent, accurate and value for money slip testing service providing you with a thorough report detailing the slip risk potential of your floors. UK law requires surfaces that are safe to walk on and our reports are used regularly in personal injury cases, though we don't recommend anything other than a proactive approach in assessing and reducing slip risk.

A comprehensive assessment process ensures accurate analysis of slip risk:

We test the coefficient of dynamic friction using BS method 7976-2 (the HSE's preferred in situ slip test method) to the latest UKSRG guidelines.

We measure the surface roughness (Rz) giving additional information about the surface construction, wear and risks from contamination.

We conduct a "Slips Potential Model" risk assessment of the test area taking into account any and all factors affecting the potential for a slip to occur.

We provide a comprehensive test report on the slip risk tailored to your specific purposes and including, as appropriate, advice on the best ways to reduce slip risk. Reports are issued within a guaranteed 5 working days but often sooner. You can request a sample report here.

Further information on our assessment methods and alternative methods can be found on the Test Methods page.

Why trust Grip Potential to provide a measure of your slip risk?

Compliance to established standards

Our tests are conducted in strict compliance with the HSE's preferred in situ test method BS 7976 (the Pendulum), alongside the latest UKSRG Guidelines. Reports for slip injury accident investigation and litigation are fully CPR compliant.

Evidence of accuracy

All test equipment is externally calibrated annually by independent UKAS accredited bodies. UKAS calibration certification is freely available on request, alongside certificates of conformity for all standard materials used. Thorough calibration checks are conducted and recorded prior to each and every assessment.

Independence

We remain completely independent from any anti-slip solution providers and never profit from any referrals. Our independence ensures an unbiased test, but also allows us to recommend the best anti-slip solutions, often from products we have previously tested.

Reputation

Our services are regularly employed by forensic engineers, solicitors and lawyers in personal injury cases. Despite having only started trading in 2009 approximately 40% of our business is from repeat customers. We are members of the UK Slip Resistance Group, the leading independent authority on slip resistance in the UK. Testimonials from previous clients, including major brands, can be found here.

Price

When it comes to the safety of staff/visitors price shouldn't matter, but we know that it does. We aim to be the cheapest independent test consultancy without compromising on the accuracy and attention to detail required to present reports to a court. We are able to offer competition beating pricing across the UK through economy of scale and modest profit margins. We will be happy to offer a formal quotation on request.

Further Information

Pendulum testing requires access to approximately 1m² of floor surface. Surface roughness measurements are conducted on the same spot as pendulum tests. Tests do not affect the floor any more than walking and are clean and quiet. No external power is required and access to any wet flooring is restricted at all times.

The time required to conduct site assessment of a single area is around 15 to 30 minutes. During this time measurements of surface friction, surface roughness, wind speed and gradient are recorded. A full risk assessment is conducted using all available information. Photos of the site and pendulum are taken both for reference and evidence.

We avoid booking multiple visits into a day wherever possible, ensuring that we have the flexibility to offer additional testing as required on site. If we are limited in the number of tests we can perform on site we will always advise you beforehand. Tests can be conducted around the clock as necessary, at no additional cost in most cases.

It can often be beneficial to conduct tests alongside cleaning contractors. If the floor is heavily soiled it is likely that an effective deep clean will significantly increase slip resistance. We do conduct spot cleaning using generic or specialist products where it is likely to aid the risk assessment or provide additional information.

Whilst we offer a complete slips and trips assessment it should be noted that a common sense assessment for trip hazards can be easily conducted by any untrained person. The specialised scientific investigation required for an accurate slip risk assessment is the focus of our service.

We will be happy to answer any questions you have on the assessment process. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.
